Performs specialty diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to sleep disorders
SECTION III : EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
MINIMUM EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS/LICENSE/DEGREE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED; Current BLS certification required from American Heart Association; RPSGT Credential from the BRPT; Current Colorado State Licensure if applicable.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED and/or PREFERRED
Completes at least 10 hours of sleep related education per year; Demonstrates proficiency in all diagnostic and therapeutic modalities of polysomnography.
Polysomnography Assessment and Communication Skills
:Obtains, analyzes, and interprets patient information in order to identify patient specific needs and age specific criteria.
:Assesses patients medical status and therapeutic regimes according to sleep lab practices and procedures.
:Performs and communicates with the referring physician, Medical Director and other members of the healthcare team the needs and assessment of the patients.
:Explains all procedures to patients and/or family members
Test Preparation Procedures
:Properly assembles and calibrates equipment required for testing.
:Uses age appropriate equipment.
:Applies electrodes and all ancillary equipment according to accepted published and sleep center standards.
:Uses 10:20 electrode placement.
:Performs all equipment calibrations per policy.
:Performs physiologic calibrations pre and post study.
:Applies knowledge of theory and application by eliciting optimum patient participation and recognizing unacceptable or inaccurate data effectively.
:Performs positive airway pressure mask fitting.
:Trouble shoots equipment.
Polysomnographic Record Scoring
:Scores sleep/wake stages by utilizing professionally accepted guidelines (R and K).
:Performs sleep staging during the collection of the sleep study.
:Assists with scoring clinical events such as respiratory events, arrhythmias, arousals, limb movements, etc.
:Scores and interprets sleep disturbances which are accurately detailed with pertinent corresponding patient events patient events.
:Assists with generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical data.
:Participates in Interscorer Reliability Quality Assurance as assigned
