Audiology Tech Department: Audiology Schedule: Part-time Shift: Days - other Hours: 9a to 12p Job Details: * Position Summary Under the direct supervision of audiologists, performs the following responsibilities: assists in coordinating the Newborn Hearing Screening Program; trains Newborn Hearing screeners (volunteers). Maintains equipment and supplies; assists with weekend on call rotation for the Newborn Hearing Screening Program; write monthly newsletter; organize, schedule and substitute for volunteers. Responsible for organizing follow up letters and phone calls with patients and physicians. Job Qualifications Education or Formal Training 1. Bachelor's degree in a health related field or comparable field that provides experience with families and children preferred. 2. Basic computer skills recommended. Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Knowledge, Skill and Ability 1. Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment and to provide an accurate screening. 2. Ability to accurately use and maintain screening equipment. 3. Visual acuity necessary to read screening/computer results, to accurately perform screening and to log daily patient information. 4. Aided acuity to receive information from parents and patients. 5. Able to walk and push infant cribs and equipment from various parts of post partum to nursery for testing. Able to stand for several hours at a time while screening. 6. Ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians and other nursery staff. 7. An understanding of the limitations of the technician level and to contact an audiologist or nurse when situations arise with patients and/or families. Experience Prefer experience with a newborn hearing screening program using automated auditory brainstem response audiometry and/or otoacoustic emissions. Materials and Equipment Directly Used Automated auditory brainstem evoked response, otoacoustic emissions, and computer for data management. Working Environment/Physical Activities 1. Must have manual dexterity to perform screening. Must have visual acuity to perform screening and log results. 2. Must be able to push equipment and infant cribs (15-25 pounds) that are all on wheels. 3. Often requires several hours of standing while testing. 4. Testing environment can be stressful if the infant census is high; the NICU is busy and there are anxious patents; if there are unexpected outpatients waiting to be rescreened; if the regular screeners do not show up due to illness or unexpected situations. 5. Must be able to think quickly and ask nurses for assistance when necessary (i.e. infant choking).
